On the afternoon of December 6th, the freshmen tug-of-war themed on “Chasing Dreams with Concerted Efforts of Youren Students” took place in the parking lot to the west of the North Campus Stadium. The event was aimed to enrich cultural life on campus, display vigour of young students and promote the communication and solidarity between students of Youren college. With nine teams from CIE, College of Enology and College of Food Science and Engineering participating in the competition, Li Xiangtuo, deputy Party secretary of CIE, and Xu Sanyou, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of College of Enology attended the event as awards presenter.
Following the internationally single-elimination tug-of-war rule, the nine teams of Youren students from Class 2020 drew lots to decide their opponents. With whistles and deafening cheers keeping the arena tense and encouraging, the players were all in high spirits and morale. Their teeth gritted against coldness and hands were chafed an effortful red, displaying incredible persistence and solidarity.
Eventually, three teams from College of Food Science and Engineering won the first three places in the competition with an overwhelming advantage; the teams of Elite Class and Class 1-4 from CIE won the Most Popular Award and Spiritual Civilization Award respectively; and the teams of Class 5-6 from College of Enology won the Excellent Organization Award. Zhang Gaohua, head of the Sports Department of CIE, commented after the event that he felt all the hard work was worthwhile when he saw the happy smiles of the students and the trust and intimacy in their eyes.
