On the evening of October 8th , in the multimedia classroom on the first floor of CIE, Mr. Xiang Jun from the Department of Forign Languages of NWAFU gave CIE freshmen an informative report on English learning. ide to English learning for the 2018 students.
With the enthusiastic applause from the audience, the report commenced with Mr. Xiang’s introduction to the test requirements of the CET-4, CET-6, the IELTS and TOEFL, followed by the English proficiency requirements for studying abroad. Mr. Xiang’s humor in no time fansciated the young learners. Then, Mr. Xiang Jun focused on the difficulties and problems in solving the problems in the CET-4, CET-6 in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing. When came to "listening and speaking", vivid explanations inllustrated with a piece of interesting English video were strategically applied to keep the audience well-informed. When explaining the "reading and writing"skills, he emphasized the importance of vocabulary in English learning, reminding students to enrich lexical resources persistently. While introducing the advantages and disadvantages of each English learning software, the students are advised to carefully choose the learning method that suits them. As to oral English learning, Mr. Xiang inspired the stduents with the question “How should we learn to cope with future oral exams?”, and shared his ideas that, “ only the constant and oriented accumulation of words and expressions can lead to success in the oral exam”.
The students highly appreciated Mr. Xiang Jun’s vivid report. It is widely affirmed that the report help the students with settling clear goals in learning English. Student Wang Runsheng said: "Mr. Xiang Jun's guidance is very helpful for my preparation in CET4 and CET6. The importance of the vocabulary emphasized repeatedly in the report also makes me realize my shortcomings in English learning. I hope to develop more good habits of study from learning English."
This report informs the students of effective learning methods and prepration strategies, and help them to realize their shortcomings and space to improve in English learning. This will help them to scientifically develop their own learning strategies and improve their language proficiency.
