From: Student Affairs Office      By: Cao Xinyuan      Date: 2017-11-08

CIE’s recent activity of “experiencing scientific research in labs” achieved a complete success.

The two-week activity started from October 17th, during which the first-year students were led to labs for close communication with supervising teachers. Students’ interest in research works was greatly inspired. And a better understanding of colleges and teachers would also help them select major in this semester. During the past two weeks, the students visited labs in food science, wine studies, animal and plant, virus, and bioinformation etc., and met with Wang Junru, Zhu Jie, Ma Pengda and other supervisors.

Senior students in the lab guided the freshmen through the visits. They introduced the lab’s research fields, ongoing projects, and basic operations of the ordinary equipment. Freshmen actively raised questions during the visit and received quick and detailed responses. The interaction triggered the new students’ curiosity and interest in scientific research. Many teachers also sent offers to the new students during the visit, some of them even preparing their lab labels for every visitor.

Tian Weiye, director of CIE’s Scientific Innovation Department said, “This activity aims to help freshmen familiarize with the university’s research team, research field, facility support, and latest development. Visits to various labs allows them to get access to lab work and knowledge. Also, through close communication with the supervisors, their horizons get expanded, which will help them figure out and rationally choose their research direction in the future.”

Liu Jiaqi from Class Biotech 1701 said, “We are just looking forward to an activity like this. It means a lot to us freshmen who barely knows anything. It broadens our horizons and increase our knowledge, and more importantly, it acts as the guiding light and helps us know more about the researches we are interested in. It is also an opportunity for us to seek for suitable position sand get ready for the future study.”
