Chinese peasants’ paintings of Huxian County have been granted the title of national intangible cultural heritage. This kind of art focuses on the traditional customs and wonderful lives of Chinese peasants in the countryside, characterized with typical style---regional, precise, colorful, romantic and natural. With the silent painting language, it depicts the spectacular occasion of farm work in rural areas, as a manifestation of spiritual outlook of farmers in modern times. However, this excellent folk art is now facing the bottleneck problems in skill transmission, market promotion and intellectual property protection.
Therefore, the Chinese Peasants’ Panting Investigation Team whose members are all CIE students was established. From July 28th to August 9th, the group went to Huxian County, to learn more about the significance of this art and seek for the solutions to the problems.
In the 10-day activity, the investigation team was fully impressed by the charm of the paintings and the perseverance, enthusiasm, diligence and sense of responsibility of the farmer artists. The students, then, are determined to take their part in protecting and transmitting this traditional folk art.
