NWAFU Experts Made Great Intellectual Contributions to Poverty Alleviation

To optimize the structure of animal husbandry industry of Huangguan town in Ningshan county and to facilitate the sustainable development of local livestock breeding industry, Administrative Bureau of Huangguan Mountain Nature Reserve held the Seminars of Ecological Protection and Industry Development on June 21st in the town hall of Huangguan town. Professor Zhou Zhanqin and Associate Professor Du Renrang from NWAFU Animal Science College were both invited to give lectures on mutton sheep and swine breeding to the village participants. Deputy Director of Administrative Bureau of Huangguan Mountain Nature Reserve, Mr. Li Gefei, Town Mayor Mr. Zhang Rui, WWF Volunteers of CIE and over 60 loval villagers attended the seminar.

Having made a synthetic analysis of the local natural resources and reserve of other resources, Prof. Zhou Zhanqin informed the participants of the differences between goat and sheep in terms of their economic profit, breeding condition and raising methods. Then, Prof. Zhou put forward his Three-Changes strategy as solutions to the disadvantages of local resources---Change the goal and plan of the industry; improve the efficiency and replace the arbitrary expansion with well-planned expansion of industry scale. He also explained at great length the breeding methods of mutton sheep, in terms of the selection of cross parent, the optimization of breeding model the prevention of potential problems, providing inspiring ideas to local farmers. When requested to offer some suggestions by local farmers, Prof. Zhou came to one of the largest farm for field research, pointing out the problems to be solved and share his ideas of solution.  

As to the breeding of swine, Prof. Du Renrang gave a detailed lecture on the breeding condition, the selection of breed, the breeding methods and the market outlook of this industry. After analyzing the geographical environment and natural resources of the Huangguan Mountain, Prof. Du shared with the local farmers the ideas of promoting crossed-wild-swine breeding. He was also very responsive to the questions raised by the local villagers.

The intellectual support of NWAFU experts to the Huangguan Mountain greatly contributed to the local development of animal husbandry industry, which paves the way for poverty alleviation.
