On the morning of Oct 26th, final of 2nd A&F Undergraduates Academic Poster Design and Exhibition was held successfully on north campus, organized by A&F Academic Division and sponsored by CIE. There were over 600 hundred students flooding to the great event. And the heads of A&F Academic Division, heads of CIE, judges and some teachers were invited to the exhibition as judges.
Themed on Participating, Harvesting and Improving, the competition were designed to promote the communication among the students in terms of students-independently-conducted experiments, undergraduate innovative experiment project and other research outcomes. It also aims at improving students’ abilities to demonstrate and analyze the research outcomes via making academic posters, to use communication tool of research and to strengthen their critical thinking and innovative ability. Dispute on academic opinions are encouraged in this activity for inspiring new ideas, broadening academic view and enjoying the fun brought by research.
From its commencement on Sep 24th, all participants were highly involved in preparation and refining their works. 60 works from 186 students had been reviewed by experts at the preliminary and 36 works of excellence were selected be exhibited publically for final competition.
To guarantee the quality of all works, experts were invited to give tutorials on making posters. In addition, two surveys in terms of questionnaires were organized to collect students’ opinions of innovative research activities. At the exhibition, designers of 36 selected works demonstrated the judges and other students their research project and gave responsive answers to any questions raised. The audience then voted for the project they preferred.
Having listened to the presentation of all designers, the judges marked all works in terms of theme, design and presentation. There were three 1st prizes, five 2nd prized and six 3rd prizes. Students’ high involvement, modesty and critical thinking were highly spoken of by the judges. Some judges commented that: this activity is of great significance and interest which is an irresistible attraction to the students who can benefit from the communication with mentors and peers. We are greatly impressed by the expressiveness and clear thought of the students. And we hope their ability to design the POSTER to be improved from this activity’.
The competition and exhibition great improve students’ abilities to demonstrate and analyze research outcomes, and enhance the communication between the students. It is shared feeling of the students that this activity inspired them in doing research, broadened their academic view and enriched their study with fun. On Oct 28th and 29th, all works will be exhibited in No. 8 teaching building on north campus. Prized works will be uploaded onto internet and any comments are welcomed.
