Recently, our college held the eighth “ Excellence Cup” freshmen debate contest in the college’s multi-media classroom on the ground floor. 16 freshmen in the class of 2015 attended this contest. The final contest was divided into two parts and was chaired by debate team members. Aiqin Wang, the secretary of group work committee, attended this contest as a judge.

The first contest was between the class of 1502 and the class of 1503, the two parties debated heatedly on the topic “ the soldier who wants to be a general is not a good soldier”. The two parties cited the classics in all the stages of debate which warmed up the atmosphere on the spot. In the free debate round, contestants carried out an in-depth debate and pushed the debate into a climax with their elegant expression and clear thoughts.

The second contest was between the class of 1501(Pro side) and the class of 1504(Anti-side) on the theme of “cooperation and competition, which is more beneficial for the development of human progress”. After the brief introduction, the debaters entered into the intense battle. The pro party made their statements methodically which earned warm applause in the audience. The anti-side party also didn’t give any impression of weakness and used their sharp words to refute the viewpoint of the pro side. The debaters of the two parties acted calm in the hour of peril and left a deepgoing impression on audience and won unanimous approval of the  present judges.

After the contest, the debater Song Liu commented on and summed up the debate contest. He also announced the final result of this debate contest----the class of 1504 in biotechnology won the championship of the freshmen debate contest. The freshmen, Yifei ren earned the title “ best debater” with his wisdom, calmness and solid arguments.

The debate contest broadened students’ horizon, cultivated the team spirit and demonstrated the enthusiastic and the enterprising spirit of the students. This debate has played a positive promotion role in the construction of good style of study and the construction of campus culture.
