| Oral English Class of College English Course Conducted by Mr. Zou Yufeng
On the morning of April 26 (Tuesday), Mr. Zou Yufeng from Department of Foreign Languages conducted a two-hour amusing oral English class for students from Biotechnology Class 103 and 104 of Innovative Experimental College, prologizing the open teaching activities of this semester.
The class is comprised of three activities---news presentation��speech delivery and topic map.
First, two students came to the front and reported some hot news in and abroad, with illustration of delicate and informative powerpoint. Later, Mr. Zou commented on their performance. All students enjoyed the inviting class activity of news discussion.
In subsequent procedure, another two students were invited to deliver speeches in turn with their strong public speaking capacity, stimulating their fellow students’ passion in learning and inspiring their reconsideration of self-identity.
The class atmosphere was pinnacled with the going of the third activity. In this part, students were organized in groups, sharing with their group members a topic map made by Mr. Zou. A typical turn begins with the rolling of the dice and advancing their piece clockwise around the board the corresponding number of squares. All students who diced to the square with certain thirty-second speech topic would be supposed to deliver a relative speech which would be graded by their group mates. This game was so familiar to them; bring them back to the happy childhood. This game involved all students, made their language literacy greatly improved and got them entertained. This teaching practice associated old activities like news report and English speech with the new one of topic map, which enabled all students to learn English at lively atmosphere and stimulated their passion in English learning.
Roaring laughter and heated discussion, along with thundering applause convey students’ joy in learning English. Undoubtedly, open teaching is a student-centered teaching and learning method.
