| To stimulate students interest in learning English, our college Youth League Committee and student union organized the first English Salon titled Change in multimedia classroom on April 20th. Approximately 60 students participated in this activity, including students of grade 2010 from base class and some English learning fans from grade 2008 and 2009.
A beautiful English song Till the End preluded the activity. Then, with their perfect spoken English, the host and hostess Mi Yashi and Yang Qinnan officially announced the beginning of First English Salon of Innovative Experimental College, and briefly informed the topic and procedures.
The first activity went to Free Talk. Students present heatedly discussed about the given topic in groups and elected their group representatives to voice their ideas. Monitor of Bioengineering Class 101 Yu Haopeng uttered their discussion result with full confidence and perfect language literacy, whose speech eased the nervous atmosphere and encouraged more students to make their ideas known. In addition to revealing group perspectives on given topic, Sun Quancai from grade 2008 also shared his experience in English learning with students of lower grade. The first step went on smoothly in lively atmosphere.
The second phase was Appreciating Classic Movies. Students enjoyed a piece of 5-minute video extracted from touching American Movie Homeless to Harvard and then exchanged their feelings and views.
The third part was English learning games. Any students volunteered to read out the tongue twisters shown on the big screen, judged from their performance, had access to small gifts as encouragement.
Last, the curtain descended on the English Salon with a melodious English Song My Love. However, the end never means the cease of pursuit for perfect English literacy. It is widely acknowledged that this activity not only enrich the cultural life of students, but also improve their spoken English and make them more communicative. In addition, it strengthens the emotional bond among students who are now looking forward to next salon.
