In our university, there are a group of adorable and respected angels of volunteers --- village director assistants.

    Under the leadership of University Youth League Committee, the university-wide activity of village director assistant has been operating for 5 years with great accomplishments, which now is coming into the key stage of its exploration in the six year. This program has been progressing through years of trails and errors and unceasing efforts, making profound impact and enjoying great reputation and popularity among students and villagers around. It also enriches the cultural life on campus and offer more opportunities for students to get their abilities improved.

    It is well known that promoting the education of voluntary-service virtues among college students  plays an indispensable role in optimizing the educational climate, improving students' cultural quality and strengthening their ideological and political awareness. Currently, as CPC Central Committee and State Council Suggestions on Further Strengthen and Improve Ideological and Political Education of University Students calls for the joint efforts to further educational reform by greatly advocates quality-oriented education, educators of college and university, with a clear understanding of current situation, are supposed to make complete analysis on the development of college students' voluntary-service culture and find solution to its problems in this process in accordance with the educational objectives, which means significantly to the instruction and management in business of college students voluntary service and make favorable contributions to the construction of the campus culture.

    I Introduction to Program of Village director Assistant

    The working duration is one teaching year while sophomore of our university enjoy the permission of being involved. Students with intention can be accepted only when they pass both preliminary examination and reexamination which are in terms of interview our university Youth League Committee organize. Offering service to villagers living around our university, village director assistant can organize a team of several students in their spare time, for instance, to provide compulsory aid education in elementary and middle schools through tutoring or solving study problems.

    This activity is students-organized in accordance with their interests and favors, which enjoys university-wide popularity. Enriching the campus life, developing college students' wide interests, offering valid help to villagers around, this activity had been an dispensable part in our university, added a special contribution to the rich contents of the university culture, and makes manifestation college students' excellent literacy and noble sentiments. At times of comprehensive quality advocated, those students would be foreseen to enlighten students' passion in university activities as key role. However, compared with student union in terms of organization, this activity finds its problems of too much freedom and lack of rules. For its characteristic of students' self-organized with permission of university's administrative department concerned, this activity only requires voluntary contribution on the foudation of interpersonal favour, which in turn lead to the instability of organization, members and activity management. 

    II  Ways of Village director Assistant Work
    1. Offering compulsory aid education in elementary and middle schools,
    2. Visiting and helping the elder people of no family support and left-behind children,
    3. Donation, (clothing, books and so on) 
    4. Propaganda on safety, environmental protection, science and technology, and agricultural profit,
    5. Compulsory service like house cleaning and so on.

    III Problems in Running Village director Assistant Program
    1. Students are less experienced in administration.
    2. Students are short of spare time for the work.
    3. University's support, especially financial support does not suffice.
    4. Part of villager body remain innocent and hostile to this program.
    5. No instructor is available.

    IV Solutions to the Problems Above
    1. University is supposed to strengthen the guidance and offer suggestions.
    2. More financial support should be offered.
    3. University is supposed to assign instructors for this program, or the students should voice     their needs in this aspect.
    4. Students should learn more relative theoretical knowledge to make their administration     literacy improved and more sound.
    5. Students themselves should cooperate and communicate more for mutual development.

    University, to some extent, mirrors our society in terms of a small size, which requires students be equipped with more than professional knowledge. The firsthand experience and practice in social communication and work should be encouraged for which help the students better adapt to the social life. Apparently, this program has been offering opportunity , which both benefit the students and the villagers around our university. The double gain shouldn't be allowed to slip away.
