Flipped Class Conducted by CIE Bio-technology Base Class
From: CIE Teaching Affairs Office           By:      Date: 2015-05-06

On April 29th, Flipped Class was first introduced to Y2013 CIE Bio-technology Base Class. With the guidance of Mr. Gao Xin, the students all pitched in the discussion of research paper writing.

Mr. Gao Xin selected a few typical research papers, and had the students talk in groups over the content of papers and present their discussion results on class with the aid of PPT.

The class was composed of three sessions, ppt presentation, Q&A and teachers’ review. A good beginning is half of the success. In the fist session, students demonstrate their general analysis of assigned papers and gave detailed explanations on research methodology and thoughts applied in the papers. In addition, they shared their personal interpretation of the shortcomings in the papers and put forward new solutions.

In the following session, the audience students raised questions to the presentators who immediately gave satisfactory answers. Last, as the teachers made comments on the brilliant performance of the students, they spoke highly of the students’ commitment to the research.

Genetics course of Bio-technology Base Class has always been co-taught by Mr. Gao Xian and Professor Li Xuejun, who always inspire the student to think critically and to voice their confusion bravely. “The students ought to read more references”, Mr. Gao suggested, “the earlier, the more, the better. It will help to further students’ understanding of knowledge in textbooks and enable more creative in learning.”
